How do you administer Prothrombinex?

  1. Prothrombinex®-VF should be given as an infusion or slow IV push at 3 mL/min (180mL/hour) or 7 minutes a vial.
  2. IV infusion should be completed within 3 hours of reconstituting bottle.

How do you administer a Beriplex?

Beriplex is presented as powder and solvent. It is a white or slightly coloured powder or friable solid. The made up solution is to be given by injection into a vein. Beriplex is made from human plasma (this is the liquid part of the blood) and it contains the human coagulation factors II, VII, IX and X.

How do I administer Octaplex?

Octaplex should be administered intravenously. The infusion should start at a speed of 1ml per minute, followed by 2-3 ml per minute using an aseptic technique. The single dose should not exceed 3000 units for Factor IX (120mls of Octaplex). Octaplex is a virally inactivated product.

Diluted prothrombin complex concentrate should be administered by IV infusion at a rate of 0.12 mL/kg/min (about 3 units/kg/min) up to a maximum rate of 8.4 mL/min (about 210 units/min).

The simultaneous administration of vitamin K should be considered in patients receiving Beriplex for urgent reversal of vitamin K antagonists since vitamin K usually takes effect within 4-6 hours.

How long does Beriplex last for?

Once reconstituted, Beriplex is stable for 24 hours at room temperature (maximum 25°C); however, from a microbiological point of view, the product should be used immediately.

How long does it take for Octaplex to work?

The correction of the vitamin K antagonist induced impairment of haemostasis persists for approximately 6-8 hours. However, the effects of vitamin K, if administered simultaneously, are usually achieved within 4-6 hours.

How do you dilute Octaplex?

Making up the Octaplex and infusion rates 500 iu of Octaplex is dissolved in 20 mls of sterile water. The solution will have a bluish tinge, this is normal.

What should I do with unused prothrombinex-VF?

Prothrombinex-VF is packaged in latex free materials. Any unused medicinal product or waste material should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.

What is the recommended INR level for prothrombinex ®-VF?

Does prothrombinex-VF interact with other medications or foods?

Prothrombinex-VF is formulated with heparin sodium and antithrombin III. Therefore, the results of coagulation tests should be interpreted with care. The interaction of Prothrombinex-VF with other medicines has not been established in specific studies.
